What’s the difference?

 Solid Wall Molding vs. Structural Foam Pallets?

Solid Wall Molding

-Powdered plastic is added to a closed cavity mold. The mold is rotated on all axes while heat is applied to produce a solid walled, hollow plastic mold.  The mold is then cooled in the same process.

-Typical pallets have a smooth outer shell.

-High impact resistance. Walls can be thickened for greater strength. Durable.

-Metal reinforcement bars may be molded internally in the pallet for increased strength.

-One pallet is slowly molded in a 40 to 50 minute time frame.

-Solid walled molding is ideal for use in freezers, and will function properly in –40^OF temperatures.

-Commonly used in printing, converting, construction, heavy metals and general work in process.

Structural Foam Molding

-Plastic and nitrogen gas are injected into a closed cavity mold. The part is cooled to create the exact shape of the mold. The combined use of these materials creates a cellular core that forms a solid shell.

-Typical pallets feature a swirl on the outer shell that is caused by the molding process.

-Low impact resistance where corners become brittle, and may crack, chip, and/or break.

-Molding process does not allow internal reinforcement.

- One pallet can be quickly produced every few minutes.

- Structural Foam’s hard brittle nature only worsens in sub-par temperatures.

- Commonly used in ASRS equipment, distribution, and stacking.

Solid Wall Molding will offer greater life expectancy than structural foam.  Pallets made of solid walled molded technology and are designed to last more than a decade
