Flame Stop I™  is useful on any absorptive interior wood surface. The material to be treated can either be dipped or sprayed with low pressure equipment. The surfactants included in the formulation allow as much as 3/8" penetration into a Douglas fir stud. It can be used on framing, decorative woods, fabrics, wallpaper and other celluloid products.

  1. Basic Uses:  Interior applications such as draperies, wall coverings, carpet, furniture, cotton muslin, paper, straw, cellulose products, most synthetics, redwood, cedar, Douglas fir.  used widely in restaurants, hotels, hospitals, commercial & residential buildings
  2. Description: Flame Stop I™ is a post-treatment indoor fire retardant.  It dries clear.   When used on porous wood such as Douglas Fir or Pine, it will provide a class B rating.  It penetrates wood and becomes part of it's molecular structure.  When the treated material is subjected to an open flame, the retardant will pyrolitically self-extinguish fire with a minimum of smoke.  It is completely non-toxic and non-hazardous to the environment and simple to apply
  3. Advantages:

Since it becomes part of the substrate, the life of the flame retardancy is indefinite as long as the fabrics are not washed, however they can be dry cleaned up to 20 times

Flame Stop I™ will not deteriorate as it penetrates and becomes part of most materials.

It will not alter the structural integrity of the wood or substrata.

Non toxic, dries clear, easy to apply and create a flame retardant fabric

  4. Limitations:  Do Not Dilute.  Storage range:  110 degrees F to 45 degrees F.  Shelf Life:  3 years if kept within the storage temperatures
  5. Applicable Standards:  ASTM E-84, NFPA 255, UL 723 U>S> Testing #LA62192, CA Reg #C-14401  NFPA  701.  Flamespread   35 and Smoke Developed 15 on Wood
  6. Application:  Flame Stop I™ ( flame retardant spray ) can be applied as is by spraying or immersing.  In order to be effective there must be a 2-5% increase in the weight of the fabric, if material is synthetic such as Nylon a heavier coat may be needed.  Since all fabrics have a different density a small test (butane lighter) should be performed.  Hold a 4" x 12" piece of treated material vertically and apply a flame to the lower portion for 10 seconds, remove the ignition source.  the flame must go out within 2 seconds.
  7. Warranty:  This product is sold on the condition that the user will evaluate the suitability for their purpose.

We have additional Flame Retardants for other applications.

Flame Stop II™  has been formulated for outdoor applications. This chemical contains polymers and surfactants that allow it not only to penetrate a wood surface, but also create a watertight adhesion bond.

Flame Stop II™ contains additives that seals the active fire retardant chemicals. FS II not only retards the material being treated, but adds weather-resistance. Flame Stop II™ has a tendency to bring out the natural beauty of the wood surface whether it be shingles or other exterior wood products. The weather resistance is accomplished because after the product is allowed to cure it becomes insoluble. Flame Stop II™ can also be applied to various types of fabrics that are used for exterior purposes such as awnings, stage decorations, costumes, etc. It also works very well on decor thatching, wood stage props, hay barriers, hula skirts and any other porous cellulose material. Tested by US Testing Co. No. (LA62466). Flame Stop II™ is a wood preservative for Cedar Shake Shingles.  Apply at the rate of 200 square feet per gallon  Click Here for Data Sheet in Adobe PDF

Flame Stop III™ is one of the most unique fire retardants available on the market today. It can be mixed with any latex paint or latex base stains. It requires no seal coat or precoat as do most other fire retardant paint systems. It has an indefinite shelf life as do most other systems and since it is not premixed with the paint, it allows for an unlimited selection of colors and an extensive choice of paint brands.

Just one application of Flame Stop III™ will provide a Class A fire rating. The mixture is 16 ounces of Flame Stop III ™ (as it comes in the container) per 1 gallon of paint. Mix thoroughly and apply according to the instructions of the paint manufacturer. In most cases, the mixture will become thicker than desired and will require approximately 1-2 pint of water to be added, therefore, it can be said that Flame Stop III is also useful as a paint extender. If Flame Stop III has been stored in a cool area (less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit), it may be necessary to pour hot tap water over the Flame Stop III™ container in order to facilitate the mixing.
